Trauma in childhood is not only limited to physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, childhood trauma is also being exposed to traumatic events as well.
Traumatic events can be seen as natural disasters and even witness violence within their communities.
The effects of childhood trauma can live with us well into adulthood. Unhealed trauma in adults can impact present and future relationships that can lead to other issues such as depression, attachment issues, difficulty with emotion regulations, trust issues, fear of rejection or abandonment, and low self-esteem.
Some examples of childhood trauma include, but are not limited to
Disappearance of parent(s) whether through divorce, abandonment, or dealth
LGBTQIA + discrimination
Physical abuse
Sexual abuse
Verbal abuse
Community violence
Refugee experiences
Military factors (e.g., employment, death, injury, or parental deployment)
Natural disasters (e.g., tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, or fires)
Emotional abuse/ neglect
Life-threatening illnesses
Serious accidents
Losing a loved one
Just a reminder you are never too old or too far removed to seek guidance for something that happened in your childhood.
You can always start working on yourself at any given time.
Your thoughts and feelings of the events that happened to you years ago are just as valid now as they were then.
